The town seems to specialise in outsize enterprises. The Slough Trading Estate is  the largest privately-

owned industrial park in Europe. 

And the Arndale Centre was the largest shopping complex of its kind in the country at the time.

One of the pioneers of modern astronomy, Sir William Herschel (1738 -1822), may have approved.

He set up a giant 48 inch telescope in his back garden and was thus able to create the first true map of the universe.

Herschel lies buried in the churchyard of St Laurence at Upton.
